What’s in my makeup bag? My current daily favourites.

makeupbagI love a good rummage through other people’s makeup bags, having a nosey at the products they keep in there. Even the bag itself is of interest to me, with lots of different styles to choose from. My current makeup bag is by Hello Kitty (it looks more grown-up than it sounds!) and the top fully opens so I can easily see and access everything that is inside. It is also super roomy; despite looking like it’s full to bursting, I promise you, there’s room for more! I don’t generally keep any lipsticks or eyeshadows in my makeup bag as I switch these up on a daily basis. The contents also vary depending on what I am using or testing. So let’s have a look at my current selection…

The Base – I spend many hours perfecting my base, changing it up on a regular basis. That being said my current base favourites have stayed the same for a few months now; I have two versions depending on where I am going. Work Days – If I am going to work (I work in a hot hospital) then I use the Body Shop Wonderblur Primer, Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (Original), L’Oreal Infallible 24-Hour Matte Foundation, (Vanilla) Urban Decay Naked Concealer (Fair Neutral) followed by Revlon PhotoReady Powder (Fair/Light) on my eyelids and t-zone.  The silicon primer and matte foundation combo are key to my makeup lasting the day without sliding off my face and the powder gives a light airbrushed coverage to minimise shine without making me look flat.

Non-Work Days – On these days I use the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer topped with the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation (1N1 Ivory Nude) as I love that combination. The Urban Decay Naked Concealer (Fair Neutral) hides dark circles and highlights and the Illamasqua Skin Base Lift Concealer (Light 1) covers blemishes perfectly. The Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer provides the perfect base for the more intricate and fancy eye looks I do on those days and again the Revlon PhotoReady Powder (Fair/Light) sets my eyelids and t-zone. To prep my lips on all days I use the Nivea Lip Butter (Vanilla & Macadamia).

The Eyes – I have several different mascaras to choose from depending on my mood and the look I am going for. Work Days – When I am in a rush I tend to use the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara (Intense Black) or the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara (Ink Black) as they provide a great finish with one or two quick coats.

Non-Work Days – When I have more time to spend layering mascara and perfecting the finish I reach for the Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes Mascara (Glossy Black) or the 17 Falsifeye HD Mascara (Blackest Black). I love both of these and they layer up to give the full and defined eye look that I seek. A couple of other eye products that have crept into my makeup bag are the New CiD Cosmetics i-gel Eyeliner Trio (Granite, Graphite & Carbon) and Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerise Cream Eyeshadow (Mona Lisa). The gel eyeliner is perfect for a winged look and is slightly softer than the black I normally reach for and the cream eyeshadow gives a beautifully chocolatey finish, is super pigmented, easy to blend and long-lasting.

The Brows – I am getting a little bit obsessed with brows and I am currently in search of the holy grail of brow products. Work Days – both the L’Oreal Brow Plumper (Dark Brunette) and Anastasia Brow Wiz (Dark Brown) are fabulous, easy to apply products when I have limited time to get ready. The Brow Wiz is fab because I can re-shape my brows as well as filling in sparse areas and I am gradually getting quicker with this.

Non-Work Days – when I have more time I use a combination of the Anastasia Brow Wiz (Dark Brown) and the Anastasia DipBrow Pomade (Dark Brown). The DipBrow needs a light hand and a small angled brush to achieve the desired effect. It’s very easy to make a mess with this which is why it does not make an appearance on a work day.

The Face: I keep a few blushers in my bag for use on both work days and non-work days including The Balm Cindy-Lou Manizer, which is a pinkish highlighter that I tend to use as a light blusher, eyeshadow or all-over-the-face brightener. This is a great work-day favourite to make me look perky and awake! The Max Factor Creme Puff Blush (nude mauve pink) is a lovely natural colour that goes with all eyeshadow and lipstick colours and can even be used for a very light contour. The Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow  warms up my face and gives me a pop of highlighter on my cheeks and nose, and the KIKO baked blusher (now discontinued) is a really long-lasting blush that brightens my face no matter what the day.

The Others: No makeup bag is complete without a sharpener. I use the NARS pencil sharpener as it is able to sharpen both thin and thick pencils and it is easy to clean with a removable top and bottom. The Colour WOW Root Cover Up (black) helps keep the greys hidden between hair dyes and is an absolute essential for my makeup bag.

So that’s my makeup bag. What are your current favourites that you always have to hand?
