Winter is Coming… Top 10 favourites for October 2015

winterpicAs the weather has been getting a bit colder I have taken the opportunity to rethink my skin and hair care routine in preparation for the upcoming drop in temperatures…Winter is Coming (*in the voice of Jon Snow*) and I need to be organised! As someone with combination skin, the change in temperature and weather is a bit of a nightmare. I spend all summer fighting an oily T only to reach the cooler temperatures and windy weather of autumn with super dehydrated skin. I just can’t win! Here are the 10…oh wait no, just sneaked another in there…11 products that I have added into my routine to combat the chilly weather…

1 – Philip Kingsley Elasticizer – An oldie but a goodie! Apparently hair stretches and breaks when it gets wet and this pre-shampoo treatment stops that happening. Whatever the ‘science’Β I have been using this once a week to add a bit of extra much-needed moisture to my hair and it’s feeling much better for it.

2 – Aussie 3-Minute Miracle Colour Mate Deep TreatmentΒ – I return to this product time and time again when my hair needs a bit of a pick-me-up. I tend to use it as a conditioner instead of a hair mask/treatment. It leaves my hair feeling soft and silky and I love the smell.

3 – GarnierΒ Miracle Sleeping Cream – Since this was launched I have been turning to it to when my skin is feeling dehydrated. It works its magic overnight while I sleep…or as I sit watching Netfilx on a no-makeup day. πŸ˜‰ My skin feels great, really hydrated and ready for a full face of makeup when I wake up!

4 – Dr Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips – This was originally designed to soothe sore nipples for nursing mothers…anything that can cure that can certainly make my cracked lips feel better! It’s quite thick but if you keep it in your pocket it warms up and applies very easily. Love this!

5 – Rituals Fortune Body Scrub – This smells AMAZING, keeps my drying skin smooth and flake free and leaves a really light oily residue on my skin that helps keep it soft and smooth.

6 – Soap & Glory The Righteous ButterΒ – This is quite a heavy body butter which is perfect for the autumn/winter months. It sinks in easily and a little goes a long way. It is currently keeping my arms and legs in good condition…not that it’s warm enough to show them off, but summer bodies are made in the winter…right?

7 – Elizabeth Arden 8-Hour Cream Skin Protectant (fragrance-free) – I use this year round on my under eye area (at night) to keep eczema away. In the colder months I also use it on my lips, face, hands, elbows and anywhere else that looks like it’s about to flake off!

8 – LUSH Lemony Flutter Cuticle ButterΒ – I don’t know why, but the skin around my finger nails gets super dry when it’s cold. I discovered this a couple of months ago andΒ it’s a real life-saver to my drying (read: ageing) hands.

9 – Monu Refining Β Capri Facial Treatment OilΒ –Β This oil is great for adding a concentrated hit of moisture as well as being especially designed for oily/acne-prone skin like mine. It has a gorgeous citrus smell. Although it can be used in a morning I tend to only use it in an evening so that it does not disrupt my foundation.

10 – Smashbox Photofinish Hydrating Under EyeΒ Primer – This is fabulous to keep the under eye area moisturised and provides a great base for foundation and concealer helping to fill in my lines and creases and to keep the illusion of youth! πŸ˜‰

11 –Β GOSH Velvet Touch Cream PrimerΒ – I tend to ditch the mattifying primers for more hydrating ones in the autumn/winter and this one is currently ticking all boxes for me. It applies smoothly, fills in all the bits I need it too, provides a great base for my foundation and gives me an extra shot of moisture. What’s not to like?

Winter is coming…but I am ready! Are you? Any other hints and tips gratefully received.
