What do you do when you have taken to your sick bed with neither the strength nor inclination to lift a camera, arrange products and write about their loveliness? Well apart from cheering myself up by catching up on all my favourite bloggers’ posts, the answer is do a tag of course! And what better than a Christmas tag, with it being the season and all. Thanks to Samantha Rose at Cookies & Contour for this idea…read her great Christmas tag post here. And thanks to Lemsip and a myriad of other over-the-counter medication for helping me on the road to recovery. So here goes…
What is your favourite Christmas film ?
I love a good Christmas film! I love Elf, The Grinch and also the original Home Alone film. I’ve already watched Home Alone this year but I am saving Elf for next weekend and The Grinch for Christmas Eve.
What is your favourite Christmas memory?
Getting the bumper Christmas edition of the Radio Times in December and marking off all the films and programmes I wanted to watch. Of course this was way before the internet, catch up TV and all the fancy schmancy ways of viewing and recording our televisual feasts we have nowadays…yes I am that old! Yikes!
Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
When I was younger my mum always used to cook beautiful pheasant dinner on Christmas eve which I always really looked forward to. Nowadays I am at work on Christmas eve so by the time I get home there’s no way I am travelling anywhere in that crazy traffic! I tend to have a bath, have a bit of a pamper (face mask, eyebrows, paint my nails), watch a Christmas film then go to bed.
If you could only buy one person a present this year, who would it be?
I exchange very few gifts at Christmas (mutual agreement not grinchyness!) and only send out a few cards, so if I had to choose one it would probably be my charity donation. This year in lieu of Christmas cards and presents I have donated to Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity. Everything Shelter does is focused on achieving a vision of a safe, secure, affordable home for everyone…something I am passionate about.
Do you open presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
As a child I opened my Santa stocking on Christmas Day morning and we would open our tree presents later in the day, sometimes in the morning and sometimes more towards lunchtime. Now I open some presents on Christmas Eve (from friends) and some on Christmas Day evening. Gifts are really lovely but my Christmas does not revolve around them.
Have you ever built a gingerbread house?
No, but I have eaten a full one! Does that count? 😉
What do you like to do on your Christmas holiday?
I like to enjoy my time off work by relaxing. I like to lounge about, watch TV and eat…! Occasionally I will have a look at the Boxing Day sales (online) but that is about it. This year I am spending Christmas Day & Boxing Day with my parentals & sister, we are going out for a curry on Christmas Day. 🙂 I have some uni work that I really need to start so I’ll probably be doing that for the other 2 days.
What’s your favourite Christmas Smell?
The smell of frankincense and pine and delicious food cooking in the kitchen. My mum’s house always smells really nice at Christmas with candles, fresh foliage and cooking.
As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?
I never asked for anything extravagant I don’t think (my mum will correct me if I am wrong!) however I never got a Mr Frosty…and I really really wanted a Mr Frosty! 😦 I never got to make my own snow cones and squeeze the mysterious penguin juice on to them. If anyone out there had a Mr Frosty, tell me…did I really miss out?
What is the best part of Christmas for you?
Having a few days off work, the Christmas lights and the delicious food. I like getting together with my friends for meals and catch ups. This year, for the first time in ages I am spending Christmas with the parentals and my sister (it’s usually one or the other). I don’t even remember when we last spent Christmas all together, so that is the best part of this Christmas.
I hope that you all have a lovely Christmas. Let me know if you do this tag, I would love to read it!
