New year, new…who am I kidding?!

I giggled to myself as I wrote this title as I was all set a few months ago to open 2016 with hints, tips and advice (mainly aimed at myself) on losing weight and increasing fitness levels. What a difference a few months makes!Β Usually around this time of year I set myself unrealistic, unachievable goals focused on my weight, my exercise regime (or lack of) and my nutritional intake. This year I am saying a bit fat (pun intended) NO to that way of thinking! Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I don’t want to be fit and healthy, I just don’t want it to be my overarching year or life goal. I know myself too well and know that I want to stop setting myself up for failure.

So what do I want? I want to be happy, healthy and pain-free and I want to continue building and growing my blog and becoming a more creative writer and photographer. More specifically I want to start going to pilates classes so I can keep my back pain-free and healthy, I want to increase the reach of my blog posts and social media, I want to complete my MSc (I work full time so this is a challenge) and I want to teach myself to take better photos and also teach myself video editing skills so I can branch out on to You Tube (yikes!) and I either want to buy a house or move to a different country…I’m still working on my thinking around the last two! πŸ˜‰

My inspiration…

I follow Julie Creffield’s blog ‘Too Fat to Run‘Β and facebookΒ page ‘The Fat Girl’s Guide to Running‘ and got really excited where she released her new book New Year, Same You: A guide to health and happiness at the size you are. As someone who has been on more diets than I can remember and has made more resolutions about weight loss and fitness than I care to admit to, this book has been a breath of fresh air. I have started to make peace with who I am and what I look like…there is definitely more to life (see above for examples)!

Another passion of mine is organisation. Marie Kondo’s The Life-changing Magic of Tidying: A simple, effective way to banish clutter foreverΒ is a gripping read if you are an organisational nut like me! I vow to get rid of all my uninspirational belongings this year and declutter my life…including my makeup stash (yikes)! I have waaaaay too much stuff andΒ some of it has to go. I feel a series of decluttering blog posts might be on the horizon as I slim down my collection. I know my friends and family look forward to me decluttering my beauty & makeup stash as they usually get first pick of the rejects! πŸ˜‰

I am currently welcoming in the first day and night of 2016 sitting in bed watching TV…the Sound of Music (my all-time fav) has just finished and Shaun the Sheep: The Farmer’s Llamas is now showing. My electric blanket is on and I have a hot cup of Teapigs lemon & ginger tea beside me. I am pretty content for now. I hope your new year has got off to a good start…here’s to 2016 peeps!
