My current makeup & beauty favourites – April 2016

Current Beauty Favourites

I haven’t done a favourites post for a while so I though it was time to bring it back! So let’s have a look at what makeup and beauty products I have been currently loving…

Santa was kind to me this year and gifted me that Hourglass palette (£65) and I have to say Santa, this was a good call as I absolutely love it! I love smooshing the ambient lighting powders all over my face and use the bronzer and blushers to add to the glow I have created. I sometimes have a bit of a heavy hand with this palette and tend to look a bit like a disco ball…but I don’t care! It’s awesome!

Still on the theme of palettes, let’s face it can you really have too many (*pssst…the answer here is NO!*), the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Blush palette ($30 on offer!) has been another of my most reached-for face products. I mean it literally has everything, blush, bronze and highlight and covers the peach, pink and neutral spectrums perfectly. Gwen also delivered some fabulous lipsticks this year and I was immediately drawn to the vibrant red/pink that is Wonderland (£16) and it has been on my face so much that I have had to force myself to put it down so I can try other shades. I have to say though, the Gwen collection in general is just brilliant and I don’t want to stop using it!

No matter how beautiful, at the end of the day that makeup has to come off! I discovered the Garnier micellar water (£3.29 on offer) through one of my beauty box subscriptions and I am totally obsessed with it! I am a lazy girl at heart and like to have makeup-removing products next to my bed as sometimes I just can’t walk to the bathroom to take it all off (*sob*). This stuff just swipes it all off and leaves your skin feeling comfortable afterwards.

Another comfort-inducing product is the Kiehl’s Eye Treatment with avacado (£20, 14g) which has saved my life! I have dry eczema-prone under eyes and have tried all sorts to keep it under control but this is doing the trick nicely. I use it on an evening and wake up with hydrated under eyes…a job well done! 🙂 Most of my focus in on my face and I tend to forget my hair which is fine and easily looks limp and lifeless, particularly if I put heavy products on it after washing. The L’Oreal Professional Mythic Hair Oil (£16.49) does a great job of adding shine, making my hair lovely and soft and it also smells amazing. Half a pump is all that’s needed, it’s a game changer!

One thing I often fail at is nailpolish appication as I just don’t wear it often enough. I am quite clumsy and tend to get it all over my fingers. 😦 The Barry M Nail Paint Corrector Pen (£4.99) has been my saviour as I no longer have to worry about this because I can clean it up easily. I can also be a bit heavy-handed with my blush application (there’s a theme developing here!) But the Real Techniques Bold Metals Tapered Blush Brush (£18 on offer), which has been my go-to blush brush for a while now, reigns me in and helps me be more precise. I love it particularly when using the Hourglass palette as it’s small and fits the powder squares perfectly!

My final favourite is an amazing facial oil. I love facial oils but I have to be careful as I break out easily. I have found with the Monu Refining Capri Facial Oil (£29.50), which is especially designed for oily and spot-prone skin, that I can use it without fear of unwanted skin problems. I use it on a night and wake up with soft, supple, hydrated skin.

There are some cracking products here and I am currently loving all of them equally. Are there any makeup and beauty products that you think I need to check out? Let me know below as I am always on the look for the next big thing!

  1. The hourglass palette and the Gwen Stefani one look so ridiculously pretty! Wish it wasn’t that expensive… Although I am thinking about getting them 😀
